Did you know that America's largest repaint franchise provides an honest two year warranty on their exterior paint jobs? That's because regular house paint oxidizes within three years due to UV exposure. What’s more, latex paint is water repellent, not water-proof, allowing exterior wood surfaces such as garage doors, siding, and trim, to get wet after a few hours of wind driven moisture. This is how exterior wood deteriorates -"dry rot" is caused by wood surfaces getting wet and drying out repeatedly. At Durability by Design, we are committed to providing a more durable paint job, and we have found a way to accomplish this by using waterproof elastomeric coatings as a substitute for conventional house paint!

Elastomerics are used extensively on commercial buildings and as a roof coating. Unlike house paints, elastomerics only oxidize on the surface, and as a waterproof coating, they can be washed down aggressively. Dirt, and even color fade, can actually be power-washed off exterior surfaces to maintain a freshly painted appearance for ten years and beyond! And what is more, as a waterproof finish, deterioration of exterior wood siding and trim is effectively stopped!
